My Marathon Blog
Marathon Day!
23rd April 2007
Thank you to Amanda and David who sponsored me yesterday. And thank you to everyone who has sponsored me throughout the build up to the marathon!!
I was hoping my new streamlined look would help me run the marathon in record time. Unfortunately as it was so hot and sunny yesterday, I was forced to wear a cap. Thus creating a lot of extra drag, which led to a slower time than I was aiming for.
I finished the marathon in a very tired 4 hrs 38 mins. My dad finished in 5 hrs 4 mins.
My legs have been suprisingly ok today. I amazed myself this morning by being able to walk up and downstairs!!
Thanks again to everyone who have sponsored me!!
Bald!
21st April 2007
Thank you David, Margaret, Anna and Charlotte for all your last minute votes.
In the end shave has won!
My head was shaved this afternoon, by 2 very keen barbers, Paul and Tomas. Having shaved my head down to the agreed grade 1, they weren't content and continued to pester me until I gave in and had my head shaved by razor.
I'm quite happy with the shaved head. Its not half as bad as I expected it to be. Just have to pray it doesn't grow back curly now!
1 More Day Of Hair!
20th April 2007
It has just dawned on me this was a really bad idea! I like my hair!!
This week my attempts to save my hair backfired! My Nan wanted to help sponsor me to save my hair. Unfortunately my Uncle David sabotaged her vote by offering to registering her vote online, he then voted shave instead!
Thanks to everyone who have sponsored me in the last few days. Votes for shave have come from Craig and unknowingly from my Nan. Votes for save have come from Sarah and Laura. Thanks!!
1 Week to Go!
15th April 2007
I've done my final long training run :o) and in 1 weeks time I should have finished the marathon!
I've still got a long way to go to reach my fund raising target of £1000. So please keep sponsoring me!!
Currently its not looking very good for the future of my hair. This week, I've had a run of votes for shave. Votes for shave came from Liz Callaghan, and my Auntie Susan and my Uncle David. Thank you all!
I also had 1 vote for save from Paul Keating. Thankyou!!!
Over £500!
4th April 2007
A big thank you to Tom for helping me past the £500 mark! He voted shave and widened the gap between shave and save to £75.
Is there anyone out there who will help me save my hair???
3 Weeks To Go!
1st April 2007
I'm starting to get a little worried. The marathon is 3 weeks today!
I ran 15.5 miles yesterday, it took me 2 and a half hours and is the longest I've run in training so far. It was very tough going! I'm not looking forward to doing that distance plus another 10 miles on top of it!
Unfortunately due to injuries I am well behind in the number of miles I should be running in training. I'm planning on going to the physio this week and hopefully can sort out a few of my niggling little injuries.
The fund raising has been going great. Thank you Rich and Sarah C who voted shave and thank you Kelly for voting save.
I'd like to point out to Rich, that there is no way I'm going to shave my eyebrows!!!
Long List of Thank Yous
28th March 2007
Its been a long time since I've updated this site so I've got a list of thank you's to get through!
Big Thank yous to Nina, my Auntie Anne, and Sarah P who voted save and helped keep save in the lead most of this month.
Also Thank you Mags, Jen and Michael Fitz who voted shave. I'm very dissapointed with Michael and Jen who both lead me to believe they would vote save! Liars!!
Spot The Difference
6th March 2007
Thought I would have a little fun today so decided to Photoshop a picture of me to see what a shaved Andrew looks like.
At this point I feel its best to point out that I haven't mentioned the word 'Bic' anywhere on this website!
The gap is closing!
5th March 2007
I'm very happy today! Today is a day off running and the gap between shave and save has just been closed to only £45!
Big thank you's to my cousin Clare, Auntie Kathleen and Uncle Les who voted save last week.
And another big thank you to Jo for voting save and for your comment, "Can't have an ostrich runner turning into an ostrich egg!". I maintain the fact I do not run like an ostrich!!!
Broken the £200 barrier!
27th February 2007
I've just gone over the £200 barrier, thanks to a vote for save from Clare. So a big thank you to you!
Still another £800 to go! So please keep voting!
Lessons learned from running
25th February 2007
I went on a 2 hour-ish run down the canal to Ricky this afternoon. I think I covered round about 14 muddy miles.
Today I learned a couple of things about running. First of all its not a good idea running after a drinking bender a couple of days before. Secondly its not a good idea trying to jump really big puddles, you only end up with muddy shoes and soggy socks!
I'm quite chuffed with todays run because it's the first time I've run half marathon distance in almost 2 years. I'm also chuffed because i know tomorrow is a very welcome day off!!
Going from bad to worse!
18th February 2007
Its been a dissapointing weekend for my hair! Thanks to a string of votes from Michael, Julia, Caz and Kev, shave now has a £110 lead over save :(
I did my first long-ish run on Saturday. I ran for about 1 hour and 30 mins. In that time I went through the park and then ran down the canal past Ricky Aquadrome and then returned home along the Ebury Way. Its been a very tiring week of running!
Why am I doing this again?!
Not a good start for my hair!
15th February 2007
A big thank you to Emma and Rosie who have sponsored me and voted save.
Unfortunately all there good work has been spoiled by Tomas, Paul, Dave and Tracy! Who together have pushed shave into a £30 lead!
